Yuletide Letter!
Hi! I'm Alana on AO3, and this is my first Yuletide! If you're checking out my letter and it appears unfinished it's because it is because October is my workplace's hellmonth and its impossible to find time to do anything, but I hope to have it completed by Nov. 1st!
GENERAL DNWS:
Descriptions of piercings being made, hypodermic shots, or other thin metal going into flesh
Gore-based horror, graphic descriptions of violent torture or wounds (non-descriptive mentions of wounds and blood are fine)
Foreground m/f (mentions of canon or implied het relationships are fine, background het is fine)
Surprise and highly avoidable non-canon character death (like, "the ship gets together... and then Bob dies of the kidney stones he never went to the doctor for!" or "And then he died from the poison, because everyone forgot about the canon panacea he had in his left pocket" or whatever.)

I'm not especially interested in school/college AUs, but just about anything else is absolutely up my alley!

What I love about this canon
Metal Gear Solid-style ridiculousness without the baggage of the main series' innumerable plot twists (since it's set in a different timeline), Snake not dying of accelerated clone aging, the incredible gloomy and tense atmosphere, the narrative focus on identity and sense of self and being uncertain of who you are, the deliberate mirroring of characters with the cast of MGS1 and then deliberate subversion of that mirroring... I love it, 10/10.

Other?: As a single person, I could only nominate 4 characters, but I'm starving for content and love every inch of this game. If you read through the game script and decide Roger and Leone's dark past of betrayal and rage speaks to you, I want it! If you think La Clown is the most fascinating thing in the universe, tell me about it! If all you want is Elsie and Frances doing 1001 words of Punch and Judy slapstick, I may not understand you, but I still welcome you with open arms.

What I love about this canon
Metal Gear Solid ridiculousness with a brighter, more colorful backdrop, the vivid and delightfully silly characters, the dynamic of people who are genuinely well-meaning (if somewhat at odds) coming together to derail villainy none of them had ever suspected, things like Venus and Snake chatting with each other during a boss monologue and B.B. hypnotizing the president ("Hypnotizing the President is a federal offense!") and dousing for plot progression... it's still got a lot of that really fascinating focus on identity, but it's so much more positive and fun than the previous installment, which I ALSO love.
Snake:
Snake, Roddy, Dave, and Consuela's adventures in the Serena Republic! Snake's pre-amnesiac life with SaintLogic as a test subject! Snake at the Praulina massacre... or right after, when he's shot by Venus, and found by his friends... I'd love little snapshots of any of the things that happened before the game.

I would genuinely LOVE fic about her everyday life post-canon as a grocery store cashier. Like... man, what a life change! None of her coworkers being sure if she's joking when she pulls out dousing rods to find something in the stockroom! Or her saying that her old job let her wear tactical thigh-highs to work! Or even just the pleasant satisfaction of accomplishing things that don't involve killing other people! That's some good shit!
Snake/Dalton:
The first time I finished this game and watched the post-credits scene with Snake and Dalton, my heart may have skipped several beats ("I knew you'd be there. I'm not stupid, you know" augh my heart) When in the middle of the scene it cuts to black I may have gone "holy shit did they just fuck--?" because that's where my heart was at.
So... post-credits scene where they fuck, I guess! (Carefully. Because Snake has broken every bone he's got, except hopefully his boner.)
